Paramount Pictures has released the first official trailer and film stills for Roofman, the stranger-than-fiction heist drama from director Derek Cianfrance. Based on the wild true story of Jeffrey Manchester, Roofman stars Channing Tatum as a charming, desperate man who breaks into McDonald’s restaurants by cutting through their roofs — and then hides out for half a year inside a Toys “R” Us.
The film opens only in theaters on October 10, 2025.
Heist Artist, Fugitive, Dad, Roofman
Tatum leads as Jeffrey Manchester, a former Army Ranger and struggling father who turns to burglary with military precision. He enters McDonald’s stores through their roofs, quietly robbing dozens before finally getting caught. After escaping prison, he pulls off his most surreal feat yet: secretly living inside a North Carolina Toys “R” Us for six months.
He showers in the store, eats off its shelves, and builds a hidden hideout while planning his next move. But things get complicated when he falls for Leigh, a divorced mother played by Kirsten Dunst, who sees the good in him — even when she doesn’t know the whole story.

Their relationship becomes the emotional core of the film, pulling the story into deeper territory as Manchester’s past inches closer to exposing everything.
A Cast That Delivers

In addition to Tatum and Dunst, Roofman features a stacked cast including Ben Mendelsohn, LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Melonie Diaz, Uzo Aduba, Lily Collias, Jimmy O. Yang, and Peter Dinklage.
It’s directed and co-written by Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines), with a script co-written by Kirt Gunn. The film blends suspense, romance, and emotional tension, delivering a story that’s as offbeat as it is human.
Real Crime, Real Consequences

Roofman doesn’t glamorize its subject. Instead, it asks: how far will someone go to reinvent themselves? Can charm and good intentions erase what you’ve done? The trailer hints at these questions with moody visuals and a tone that feels equal parts thriller and tragedy.
Produced by a coalition of major studios and indie players, including Miramax, FilmNation, High Frequency, Hunting Lane, and 51 Entertainment, Roofman is positioned as one of fall’s most unique entries.
