Why I Think People Who Defend Iron Fist Are Probably Racist

The title is really just to trigger people who are pretending to not be racist because they want to defend Iron Fist. Racist is much harsher a word than what I want to use. However, I don’t know the exact word I’m looking for. What I’m thinking is definitely in the same vein of racism, albeit with none of the hateful connotations.

It’s more of a need to defend whiteness than it is to hate or be prejudice. And I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with being a white person and proud, but when I say whiteness I am talking about the knee-jerk reaction that I often witness many white people have to when there is any negative portrayal/reference of white people.

Basically, what I’m referring to is white people’s need to protect whiteness as a perpetuated norm. I’m going to call it protecting the white bubble.

Examples of protecting the white bubble that aren’t Iron Fist

  • Reaction to John Boyega as a Storm Trooper
  • Reaction to Star Wars having a heavy presence of female leads (Rey, Jyn Irso, Iden Versio)
  • Reaction to Falcon becoming Captain America
  • Reaction to Jane Foster becoming Thor
  • Reaction to Michael B. Jordan playing Johnny Storm
  • Reaction to Luke Cage having a predominantly black cast
  • Cancellation of Selfie

(These are fandom based examples, but if you want examples like \”Why can\’t there be a white club at school?\” Leave a comment and I\’ll share some.)

Again, I don\’t know the word I\’m looking for so I\’m going to stick with, I think people who defend Iron Fist might be a little racist.

Iron Fist is objectively not a good show. From my personal standpoint, a show about a martial arts master with a lead that is obviously not proficient in martial arts is a bad show. It\’s like trying to make a Fast and Furious movie with Daewoos. Not gonna work bruh.

As I wrap up, I want to make clear that I don\’t think anyone who likes the Iron Fist show is some hateful person who shows up to a tiki torch rally. I sincerely don\’t think that and if I made you feel that way even after reading this I apologize. However, I do believe that if you can\’t admit the faults of the show, the actual racism and ignorance portrayed, and did not attack the casting of the Ancient One with the same vigor or even same amount of thought as keeping Danny Rand white, then yeah I think you\’re stuck in the white bubble.
