DC Studios has released the official trailer for Clayface, offering a disturbing first look at Gotham’s newest nightmare. Directed by James Watkins, the horror thriller stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, a rising Hollywood actor whose miraculous recovery sends him down a violent path. Clayface arrives exclusively in theaters on October 23, 2026.
From Gotham’s Streets to Hollywood Stardom
Before becoming one of Batman’s strangest enemies, Matt Hagen is a Gotham street kid chasing something better. His ambition carries him all the way to Hollywood, where he becomes a leading man with a promising career.
That dream ends when a local crime boss leaves Matt horribly disfigured. His team abandons him, and everything he built disappears almost overnight. With nowhere else to turn, Matt agrees to undergo an experimental treatment that promises to restore his face.
A Miracle Begins to Melt
The treatment works, but this is Gotham, so every miracle comes with a nightmare attached. Matt regains his former appearance while gradually losing his grip on reality. His new abilities become inseparable from the anger consuming him.
The trailer positions Clayface as a full horror story rather than a traditional superhero adventure. Matt’s shifting identity gives the film a potent source of body horror. His hunger for revenge makes the transformation even more dangerous.

Tom Rhys Harries leads the cast alongside Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan. Nancy Carroll and Joshua James also appear in the film.
Horror Heavyweights Reshape a DC Villain
James Watkins directs Clayface from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Flanagan also developed the story, bringing his horror instincts to one of DC’s most visually unsettling villains.
Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn, and Peter Safran serve as producers. The creative team includes cinematographer Rob Hardy, production designer James Price, editor Jon Harris, and costume designer Keith Madden. Volker Bertelmann composed the music.
Clayface has spent decades shapeshifting through comics, animation, television, and games. This film gives Matt Hagen the spotlight while digging into fame, abandonment, identity, and revenge. Judging by the trailer, DC Studios is ready to let this tragedy get wonderfully grotesque.
Clayface opens internationally beginning October 21, 2026. Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film exclusively in North American theaters on October 23, 2026.
