Prime Video has dropped the official teaser trailer and new images for Elle, the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel that takes audiences back to 1995 and into the high school years that shaped Elle Woods long before Harvard ever entered the picture. The new series follows Elle as she navigates messy friendships, forbidden romance, family bonds, and enough questionable fashion choices to make the setup feel perfectly on brand. Prime Video also confirmed that Elle premieres July 1 and already has a second season on the way, which says a lot about how much confidence the streamer has in this next chapter of the Legally Blonde world.
Before Harvard, There Was High School
The smartest thing about Elle is that it is not trying to remake Legally Blonde. It is digging into the version of Elle Woods that existed before the polish, before the reinvention, and before the world underestimated her in public. That gives the series a much better angle than simple nostalgia. Instead of replaying the greatest hits, it gets to show how Elle became the person audiences already love.
Setting the series in 1995 also gives it the exact kind of heightened teen backdrop this story needs. High school is already a pressure cooker, and for someone like Elle, it becomes the place where style, social politics, romance, and self-worth all crash into each other at once. The teaser seems to understand that balance. It looks playful and bright, but it also knows Elle’s emotional core matters just as much as the pink aesthetic.
The Heart of Elle Still Starts at Home

One of the more promising details in the official setup is how strongly the story leans into Elle’s family, especially her relationship with her mother. That feels like the right emotional anchor. If the original film worked because Elle never stopped being herself, then this prequel has to show where that self-belief came from.

Lexi Minetree steps into the lead role as Elle Woods, with June Diane Raphael as her mother Eva and Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt. That family dynamic could end up being one of the show’s biggest strengths, especially if it gives Elle more warmth than the average teen prequel. The larger cast also includes Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, and Amy Pietz, along with a sizable recurring ensemble.

Behind the scenes, the series comes from creator Laura Kittrell, who co-showruns with Caroline Dries. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Amanda Brown, and Marc Platt executive produce, while Jason Moore directed the first two episodes. That team gives Elle a strong mix of franchise continuity and fresh creative energy, which is exactly what a prequel like this needs if it wants to feel fun instead of forced.
Elle premieres July 1 on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Viewers will be able to stream the new Legally Blonde prequel exclusively on Prime Video when it debuts.
