Labyrinth (2025)

Labyrinth Is Coming to North American Theaters for Two Nights Only on May 10 and 11

Labyrinth is officially headed to North American theaters, and it is not a long rollout. GKIDS has acquired the rights to legendary animator Shoji Kawamori’s first original feature-length anime as a director, and it is getting a special two-night-only theatrical event on May 10 and May 11, with showtimes offered in Japanese with English subtitles and in an English-dubbed version.

Shoji Kawamori Turns His Imagination Loose on a Digital Nightmare in Labyrinth

Kawamori is the visionary behind iconic anime worlds like Macross and The Vision of Escaflowne. WIth Labyrinth, it looks like he is aiming straight at the modern brain with a story built for the doomscroll era.

It is a bold, original feature from SANZIGEN that blends pop energy, sci-fi edge, and a very real fear: losing control of your own life to the version of you that the internet rewards.

ATARASHII GAKKO! also performs the theme song “Sailor, Sail On,” with additional music by yonkey, which makes this feel like an anime event that is going to hit just as hard in your headphones as it does on the big screen.

A Viral Alter Ego, a Phone Prison, and a Plot to Replace Humanity With Brainrot

Labyrinth (2025)

Shiori is a high school student chasing online stardom, but she cannot break through. After an embarrassing video goes viral, the nightmare escalates fast: she gets trapped inside her smartphone and replaced in the real world by a charismatic digital double. While that doppelganger wins the internet and pushes a sinister plan to reshape humanity into obedient brainrot, Shiori teams up with other online outcasts to fight back, expose the impostor, and reclaim her life.
