Netflix has revealed the teaser art and release date for Swapped, a new animated buddy comedy from Skydance Animation that already sounds like one of the streamer’s most inventive family titles of the spring. The film launches May 1, 2026, and centers on a small woodland creature voiced by Michael B. Jordan and a majestic bird voiced by Juno Temple, two natural enemies in The Valley who suddenly swap bodies and are forced to survive a chaotic adventure together. Netflix also announced that Justina Machado, Ambika Mod, and Lolly Adefope have joined the voice cast alongside Tracy Morgan and Cedric the Entertainer, giving the project an even stronger comedic lineup.
A Body-Swap Story With a Wilder Twist
What helps Swapped stand out right away is how strange and playful its world sounds. Director Nathan Greno described the creatures of The Valley as existing somewhere between plant and animal, creating an ecosystem that feels much more imaginative than the usual body-swap setup. That gives the movie a bigger hook than simply watching two characters trade places.
At the center of the story is the smallest creature in the valley, suddenly thrown into a massive and unpredictable new reality. That perspective shift could give Swapped real emotional weight beneath the comedy. Body-swap stories work best when they force characters to confront a life they never understood before, and this one seems ready to push that idea through a much larger fantasy lens.

The buddy comedy angle also gives the film a strong foundation. A small woodland creature and a majestic bird already sound like a fun odd-couple pairing. Making them sworn enemies who now have to survive in each other’s bodies adds the kind of built-in conflict that can drive both laughs and character growth.
The Valley Looks Ready to Open Up in Swapped

The creative team behind Swapped gives the film even more promise. Greno directs, with producers John Lasseter, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Mary Ellen Bauder Andrews guiding the project for Skydance Animation. The story comes from a team that includes Greno, while the screenplay is credited to John Whittington and Christian Magalhaes and Robert Snow. Siddhartha Khosla will compose the music.
The expanding cast also helps sell the scale of the film’s world. Michael B. Jordan and Juno Temple lead, while Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, Justina Machado, Ambika Mod, and Lolly Adefope round out a lineup that should give Swapped plenty of personality. With a premise built on survival, perspective, and unlikely teamwork, this could be the kind of animated movie that lands with both kids and adults.
Swapped launches on Netflix on May 1, 2026. Viewers will be able to stream the animated film exclusively on Netflix when it premieres.
