May the Schwartz be with us, because Spaceballs is officially back.
Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the first teaser poster for Spaceballs: The New One, giving fans their first look at the long-awaited return of Mel Brooks’ legendary sci-fi comedy. Better yet, the cast and filmmakers are heading to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, where fans can expect the movie to officially jump to ludicrous speed.
The sequel blasts into theaters on April 23, 2027.
The Schwartz Awakens… Again
If the teaser poster wasn’t enough, the official synopsis proves the sequel hasn’t lost its sense of humor.
Somehow, Dark Helmet has returned.
Yes, the film immediately pokes fun at modern franchise storytelling before taking aim at just about everything else. Set 40 years after the original Spaceballs, 50 years after Star Wars: A New Hope, and “one year after the events of The Devil Wears Prada 2,” the sequel promises another galaxy-saving adventure wrapped inside relentless parody.
With Lone Starr missing, Queen Vespa now ruling the kingdom, and the Schwartz stretched thinner than “a franchise releasing TV episodes theatrically,” the fate of the galaxy falls to Prince Starburst and a mysterious palace advisor named Destiny. Their mission is to reunite Lone Starr, Yogurt, and every legacy character fans keep asking studios to bring back before the reboot consumes everything.
If the synopsis is any indication, Spaceballs: The New One looks ready to lovingly roast Hollywood’s current obsession with legacy sequels, cinematic universes, and endless nostalgia.
Hall H Is About to Go Ludicrous Speed

The fun begins before the film even reaches theaters.
Spaceballs: The New One will headline a Hall H panel during San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 24 at 4:00 p.m. Fans can expect appearances from the cast and filmmakers as they discuss the film and, hopefully, reveal plenty more than just a teaser poster.

The announcement even includes one important convention reminder: “Please keep your Schwartz inside the convention center at all times.”
Honestly, no notes.
An Incredible Cast Returns and Expands the Spaceballs Universe
One of the biggest surprises is seeing Rick Moranis return to the role of Dark Helmet after years away from acting. Mel Brooks is also back as Yogurt, joined by returning cast members Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, and George Wyner.
The sequel also welcomes Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan, creating a cast that feels perfectly suited to carry the franchise into a new generation while celebrating everything fans loved about the original.
Josh Greenbaum directs from a screenplay by Josh Gad, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit.
Spaceballs: The New One arrives exclusively in theaters on April 23, 2027. Before then, fans can catch the cast and filmmakers during their Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 24 at 4:00 p.m.
After all these years, Spaceballs returning somehow feels… exactly right. The original made its name skewering blockbuster franchises, and nearly four decades later there has never been a richer target. If the teaser poster and synopsis are any indication, the Schwartz still has plenty of power left.
