The wait is over. After an incredible retrospective celebrating more than four decades of Tom Cruise redefining blockbuster filmmaking, Warner Bros. has officially released the first trailer for Digger, and it immediately feels like one of this fall’s biggest movie events.
Directed by Academy Award winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Digger stars Cruise as the most powerful man in the world, racing against time to convince humanity he is its savior before the catastrophe he unleashed destroys everything.
The Trailer Lives Up to the Hype
If you’ve been following Digger, this trailer is exactly what fans have been waiting for.
The footage teases a globe-spanning disaster, enormous scale, and the kind of relentless tension that has become synonymous with Tom Cruise. But beneath all the spectacle is an unmistakable Iñárritu touch. Every image feels purposeful, every conversation carries weight, and every moment hints at a story that’s just as interested in power, ego, and consequence as it is jaw-dropping action.
Rather than laying out every plot beat, the trailer wisely leaves audiences with questions. Who exactly is Digger Rockwell? Is he truly trying to save humanity, or is he desperately trying to save himself?
That’s exactly the kind of mystery that keeps this trailer replaying in your head.
VistaVision Makes One Hell of an Entrance with Digger

One of the most unforgettable moments doesn’t involve dialogue at all.
Just as Tom Cruise is introduced as Digger, the frame dramatically expands from its widescreen presentation into the towering VistaVision and IMAX aspect ratio. It’s the kind of transition that immediately grabs your attention and announces that you’re about to experience something much bigger than a standard thriller.

After seeing the footage, it’s impossible not to appreciate why the film was shot entirely in VistaVision. The added scale makes every landscape, every explosion, and every close-up feel larger than life, while still maintaining Iñárritu’s intimate visual style.
It’s one of those moments that reminds you why premium formats still matter.
An Incredible Team Behind the Camera

Beyond Cruise and Iñárritu, Digger boasts one of the most accomplished creative teams assembled in years.
The film reunites Iñárritu with longtime collaborators including Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, editor Stephen Mirrione, costume designer Jacqueline West, makeup artist Alessandro Bertolazzi, and casting director Francine Maisler. They are joined by production designer Dennis Gassner, prosthetics legend Kazu Hiro, composer Cosmo Sheldrake, and an impressive screenplay team featuring Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman.
The cast is equally stacked, with Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Emma D’Arcy, Burn Gorman, Sophie Wilde, and Robert John Burke joining Cruise.
Digger is One of 2026’s Biggest Must-See Movies

Between the retrospective, the teaser, and now this full trailer, Digger has rapidly become one of the year’s most anticipated releases.
Tom Cruise continues to push himself in new directions while refusing to compromise on spectacle, and pairing him with one of modern cinema’s most celebrated filmmakers feels like exactly the kind of swing Hollywood needs more of.
Digger opens in theaters and IMAX on October 2, 2026, after beginning its international rollout on September 30.
If the trailer is any indication, audiences are in for something that is equal parts blockbuster, character study, and visual spectacle.
