Star Trek Beams Into SDCC With Strange New Worlds, Hall H Legends, and a 60th Anniversary Celebration

Star Trek is celebrating 60 years of boldly going where no franchise has gone before with a massive return to San Diego Comic-Con. Paramount+ and CBS Studios are bringing Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 to Hall H, hosting a free fan screening, filling the convention floor and surrounding Gaslamp with activations, and gathering iconic talent from across the franchise for a celebration six decades in the making.

Hall H Unites Generations of Star Trek

The Star Trek Universe Hall H panel takes place Saturday, July 25 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and promises an exclusive look at what is ahead for Strange New Worlds. Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, and Paul Wesley are scheduled to appear alongside executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman.

The panel will also celebrate the franchise’s 60th anniversary with a special introduction from Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry and appearances from George Takei, Michael Dorn, Robert Picardo, Connor Trinneer, Cirroc Lofton, Doug Jones, Michelle Hurd, Jerry O’Connell, Karim Diané, and Chong.

Bringing together talent from across multiple eras of Star Trek makes this much more than a preview panel. It is a full franchise celebration with exclusive footage, surprise appearances, and hopefully enough reveals to keep fans talking long after Hall H clears out.

Goof: continuity: There are some rank insignia mistakes. Number One is introduced as “Lieutenant Commander Una Chin-Riley” yet she is wearing the rank insignia of a full commander: two full stripes. A Lieutenant Commander’s rank insignia is a full stripe under a thin stripe (in TOS it is a full stripe and a staggered stripe). It is not uncommon for a ship’s first officer to be a Lt. Commander if they have not been in the position long. Spock at this point is a Lieutenant but he is wearing Lieutenant Commander’s stripes; a Lieutenant just has one stripe. La’an is the ship’s chief of security and the ship’s second officer. She is also wearing Lt. Commander stripes but is addressed as a Lieutenant, but it would make more sense for her to be a Lieutenant Commander. Either way both of their rank insignia are not matching the rank they are addressed by. Ortegas is addressed as a Lieutenant but is wearing Lieutenant Commander’s strips. A Lieutenant Commander may be addressed as a Commander or Lieutenant Commander but never as just a Lieutenant, so either her rank insignia or the manner she is addressed by the rest of the crew is in error.
Plots: A prequel to Star Trek (1966), this series follows the crew of the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. Star Trek boldly goes where the franchise has never gone before: to Strange New Worlds. Following the USS Enterprise, Captain Christopher Pike and everyone’s favourite Vulcan-human hybrid, Spock, are charting the course that will lead to Star Trek: The Original Series and shape the destiny of Universe’s future.
